CHAPTER ONE It was like an ordinary morning. You wake up to see the sun shining through your window and the glare from it makes you close your eyes, almost as fast as you open them. Most people awake with the feel of a nice warm body or at least a furry friend laying next to them. Rogue awakes to an empty bed when it comes to having a man lying next to her; it must have been over three years since she split up with her boyfriend. His mane was Brooke and even now she cannot get over him. He was the first man that she had ever fallen deeply in love with and because of a little on-night stand he had with her big sister Debbie, things started to change. In the end she made the decision to dump him and continue alone. And the only warmth from a body she gets from sharing a bed comes from her big black panther called Willow. She saved willow when she was a tiny cub in China. He was in the market for sale as meat and medicinal purposes and the moment his eyes met hers, she was in love again and knew that she had to buy him and save his life from the fate that awaited him. Besides, he would become very useful in time as a guardian to protect her. Willow wasn't the only cub she had brought that day. She brought tigers, cheetahs and leopards and set them free in the wild when they were old enough to survive alone, like her. It was that week that she had lost her parents. They were tragically killed in a car accident. She arrived home to the airport to be greeted by her younger sister, Raven and the family friend, Carl. The moment she had set her eyes on them, the feeling of dread ate at her insides. It was not like them to come and meet her at the airport, but this day was different. As soon as they were away from the public eyes, in the back of their grand limousine, her friends told her everything. It was almost as though her world had just crashed around her. She then decided to live for the moment each day, as it comes, so to speak. What’s the point of being rich and not travelling? She now travels the world looking for adventure and that is how her adventures started. PART 1 Rogue opened her eyes and turned over. Willow was lying next to her on the bed; his great warm furry body was out-stretched and he laid as long as the bed itself, happily purring away. The sun beamed through the window and hit her eyes with such brightness that Rogue had to cover them; she groaned, annoyed. Once she had got her eyes used to the glare, she sat upon bed and smelt the air, coffee was brewing from down in the galley of her yacht, just as she like it, first thing. She stroked Willow and smiled. "So what put you in a good mood this morning, Willow baby?" The cat raised his head at the sound of his name and looked at her, his eyes showed the affection he had for her, a small knock disturbed the purring silence; it was Maggie the maid. "Come in, it's alright." The door opened and in came a little woman carrying a small tray with a cup of steaming hot coffee on top and a few biscuits for willow. "Good morning, miss. How are you this beautiful morning? The weather is sunny and warm and I think that you should get up and have a swim before you start your day. It'll get the blood circulating around your body and you'll be fit for anything." "Maybe you’re right Maggie. I do feel like a good swim." She took the cup from her and took a sip of its hot reviving contents; she closed her eyes to feel the coffee's sweet taste go down her throat. "You make the most gorgeous coffee first thing in the morning Maggie." "Well I got to get you awake somehow, haven't I?" Rogue smiled. She would not know what to do if she had never employed Maggie. She had always been there for her; she is the best of friends. She watched Maggie go over to her wardrobe and get out her jeans and blue mini shirt. "I take it you'll be wearing these again today miss? I think that I’ll get them ironed for you before you go out in public in these. We don't want people thinking that I don't take care of you, do we?" "Of course not Maggie, but I think that jeans are supposed to look rugged and un-ironed, don't you??" "Alright, as you wish. I shall leave them and iron your top. Oh and before I go don't forget your meeting with Sir Charles Wright at 12.30 this morning." "Thank you Maggie, I had actually forgotten." she left the room and as soon as she opened her door the breeze from the sea came in. the smell was so refreshing to the lungs that Rogue could not help but climb out of bed and raise the blinds, open her window and take in some more of the breeze. Today, of all days, how could she have forgotten the meeting with the richest guy in San Francisco? "Willow, I'm going for a swim. Keep an eye on the yacht for me baby, whilst I’m gone." She walked over to the big cat, patted his head and gave him his biscuits before grabbing her towel and putting on her bikini. Once ready, she went onto deck, placed her towel on the sun chair and climbed over the railings. Maggie came through the galley door and gasped with fright. "Miss Rogue, you can't be thinking about diving off at this distance. You could split in half if you land wrongly." "Don't worry yourself Maggie. I’m excellent diver. I know distances I can dive or not, and believe me, this is nothing compared to what I have dived off in the past." She dived into the water gracefully and remembered the time when she was collecting treasures of some poor gullible guy, when he turned against her. The only way to get away from him with her life was to make the decision -get blown apart by his buffalo rifle or dive off a cliff into the water below. You can guess which one she chose. She swam backwards through the water, looking up at the sky as she went out further into the sea. Maggie peered down from the ship and exclaimed: "You don't half give me the jitters when you do things like that, Miss Rogue." Willow came up behind her and rubbed the back of Maggie’s legs; she almost lost her balance. "Oh Willow! Do you want your breakfast?" ((Another extract taken from Chapter One)) WRIGHT RIVER MANOR 12.30AM It took a cold swim and a hot coffee to wake Rogue up for her meeting with Sir Charles Wright, and then it too an open-topped convertible with a speed of 85mph on the highway to get her prepared for her assignment from Charles. Thoughts rushed through her head as she drove to the next coast to Wright River Manor, on the other side of San Francisco's coastline. Charles is a collector; he loves anything ancient and classic, from the painting of Mona Lisa to the Arc. It had been a challenge bringing him the real Mona Lisa; even now the museum doesn't know it’s a fake. She began to cross the San Francisco Bridge and head over the water, catching up slowly with the traffic, which was moving fast, but not fast enough for Rogue's kind of speed. The view from the bride was marvelous ad clear; it was a fog free morning she could see all the ships coming and going under the bridge. Reaching the other side, Rogue headed straight to Wright River Manor; she was on time when she pulled into the drive and looked at the 'house of windows', as she called it. Kane answered the door; Kane is Charles' son, a tall brown-headed, well built young man with bright blue eyes and a wonderful smile. "Rogue! honey, how you are?" he greeted her, opening the door to let her in. "I'm fine Kane, how about you?" "Fine, I suppose. I have just got back from skiing holiday in the hills and I ache everywhere, I don't suppose...?" "No, I don't have time to give you a hands-on massage; I have a meeting with your father. I take it the old man's in?" the disappointment showed in his face only because of the fact that he pouted more to emphasize it. "Yeah, his in the study" Rogue threw her arms around his shoulders, gave him a kiss on the mouth and rubbed noses with him. "Don't pout Kane; you know that makes me go all soft around you." "Why do you think I do it?" he smiled. "See much of Brooke? "No I haven't lately, his probably out there somewhere getting hitched and drunk with the nearest tart. Some other gullible rich woman who thinks his all romance and champagne." "Come on Rogue, you weren't gullible; just I guess he took us all for a ride really, didn't he? Anyway, there is no need to think about him now is there? You’ll always have me." Kane gave her one of his lop-sided smiles. Rogue couldn't help but kiss his dimple. Charles sat behind his desk, looking over some papers, his half-glasses perched on his nose. He looked up when he heard his son open the door. "Rogue is here father." "ah, Rogue, my dear, how are you?" he stood up like the gentleman he is and gave Rogue a kiss on each cheek. "Please sit down, dear." "Ok hit me with the assignment," Said Rogue sitting her bottom in a great soft chair. "we are eager to day are we not Rogue?" "Well I always like to consider the facts thoroughly as you tell me afterwards what it is. Like, do I have to order a coffin before I go?" "Alright you win. It's a Diamond." "A diamond? Oh, that sounds easy." Charles got to his feet again after having briefly sat down; he walked over the liquor cabinet and poured himself a stiff glass of brandy and offered Rogue one, which she turned down. "It's not that easy Rogue. The Diamond is known as the Diamond of Egypt, it is hidden in an underground burial chamber in Egypt, and the chamber is said to be cursed. Around nearly every corner is some kind of trap to kill all those who attempt to retrieve the diamond. "The tomb is so evil that the local people will not do anything to help you; you will not even get any guides that would take you there." he sat down again. "Then how do you expect me to find this diamond? and why is it protected so much?" asked Rogue. "There is a map, the only map in the world as far as I know; it came about when a archaeologist found it in a local market in Cairo. He noted the tomb and noted the way there and back. But when the archaeologist tried to get into the tomb, the second time he returned to it, and tried to find the diamond, he never returned. He made three copies of the map and kept one in his office, one in his home and the other on him. His wife found his copy and didn't know what it meant so burnt it; the second was found in his office by a friend of his who was a blabber mouth, he tried to sell the map to a guy who is a collector and was murdered for his troubles. Now this map has been going through different hands since it was first written in1880. It had even fallen into the hands of Adolf Hitler who sent his men out to find this diamond." "Wow!" "This Diamond has the power to destroy the world if it falls into the wrong hands, there was a powerful ruler of Egypt called Ramses III who had a priestess called Sep-Sim-Way make this diamond out of a rock, She went to look for this special rock from which she could create a diamond and one night a rock fell from the heavens and landed at her feet. It was from this rock she made this Diamond."
